boundaries

This is one of those Bible verses that just hits you: expressed in the simplest of words, in the right order, and the message is clear.

This verse was included in our worship service yesterday. Our lessons are relevant, insightful, and helps you reflect on yourself and your situations well. Watch and listen to the lessons we have inside the Church of Christ. Send me a message, and we can definitely set it up.

I enjoyed the process of coming up with the overall look of this piece.

Thought process:

I started with the word that stood out for me the most: “boundaries.” I visualized it just front and centre of the quote, so that’s the word I decided to write first.

Boundaries is such a strong word: starting with the strong b-sound, so I figured this word should be all caps.

Funny enough, that’s when I worked backwards by writing in the words that took me to the beginning, filling up the first half of the verse.

“Within the” are supporting words (preposition and article), so I decided they should be in caps but in smaller size.

“Stay always” is in calligraphy simply because the uppercase “S” is my favourite letter to calligraphy—haha. Also, I liked to start the quote with bouncy calligraphy.

“God’s love” is in calligraphy to mirror the message on top “Stay always.” I find that it visually connects the two images together, and that’s basically the message of the whole verse.

Similar idea to keeping “can reach you” in all caps, but smaller size, to connect this final part of the quote to the concept of “boundaries.” This basically allows the quote to come in full circle and figuratively draws where and why the boundaries are there: so God can reach us.

I usually write the bible verse reference in caps, but decided to calligraphy this part since it’s coming after a line of caps.

And that’s it! I enjoyed this process so much! Thinking of how the verse will look, while reflecting on it, what it means, and what it’s trying to teach me. This is one of my personal joys in calligraphy. It helps me slow down and reflect on what I’m writing.
